Barndominiums in Thornton, built by one builder
Planning a barndominium in Thornton? We build turnkey barndominiums from design to move-in across Adams County, from our base in Parker, CO.
Inside city limits, lots are tighter and zoning sets the size, height and look of an accessory building, so a detached garage, shop or RV garage gets drawn to the city's rules first. Out past town there's room for pole barns and barndominiums on acreage.
The quote is free: tell us the size, what the building is for and where the property is.

Adams County, Colorado
Barndominiums around Thornton
We build around Thornton, near Woodglen Meadows Park, Briar Ridge Park and Adams County Historical Society And Museum, and throughout Adams County.
Thornton is an Adams County city on Denver's north side along I-25. Thornton is about 31 miles north of our base in Parker, CO, well inside our 100-mile service area.
Colorado is hard on buildings: snow loads that change with elevation and county, wind that hammers open ground on the plains and the Palmer Divide, hail, and clay soils that swell and shrink under a slab. So every building is engineered for the snow and wind where it sits, the slab goes on a prepared, compacted base with footings below the frost line, and insulation and vapor control keep condensation off the steel.

Customer reviews
What our customers say
“I am so appreciative of the quality, responsiveness, and value that Mike Fowler and his crew performed on completely remodeling and expanding our kitchen including moving walls. He did it in a timely manner, provided progress updates often and finished the job in record time. We get compliments all the time on the quality of the work and how our kitchen has been completely transformed. He coordinated or did himself all the carpentry, electrical, appliance installation, cabinets, and countertop installation after we approved the plan he drew out for us. I also used him to add a shower to my laundry room, cut down a huge tree in my yard, and put a new face around my fireplace. I would highly recommend Mike for ANY remodeling work you are considering for your house. His prices are competitive too”

Kitchen remodel and expansion · HomeAdvisor review
“Mike has done my entire unfinished basement and his work ethics and willingness to work with changing design needs is exceptional. Mike's patience and quality of work is exceptional. His only goal is to ensure that customer is happy and he doesn't hesitate to redo things if customer wanted differently. I was very happy with his work and did recommend to a friend who is doing his complete basement. he is very affordable versus some of the crazy quotes we got.”

Basement finish · HomeAdvisor review
“Mike is great to work with and a very kind and fair person. He’s willing to help out in any way he can and is open to figuring out how to make unique ideas a reality. Our project turned out beautifully and he did a fantastic job. Our project finishing part of our basement did take 3-4 months longer than anticipated largely due to demand scheduling subcontractors and supply chain so it took patience but it was worth the wait.”

“Mike Fowler was very attentive and got the job done in the promised time frame. As much as a kitchen remodel can be frustrating since it is the hub of the home, there were no additional problems. They did a great job. Highly recommend.”

“Mike is a true professional in every way. Versatile, reliable, well skilled, and extremely knowledgeable. Easy to work with and a hard worker. His pricing is reasonable and his estimates for his work were spot on. I trusted him completely, as I am an absentee owner and could not be on site to oversee progress. He gave me updates and photos. A great find. Would recommend without any reservation. Hire him if u want it done right and on time.”

Questions
Barndominiums in Thornton: FAQs
Do you build barndominiums in Thornton, CO?
Yes. Thornton is about 31 miles north of our base in Parker, CO, well inside our 100-mile service area. We build turnkey barndominiums from design to move-in there, and the quote is free.
Do I need a permit for a barndominium in Thornton?
Usually. When one is needed, we get it from the city of Thornton inside its limits, or Adams County outside them and build to whatever the permit and inspections require.
How much does it cost to build a barndominium in Colorado?
It depends mostly on the size of the living space, how finished it is and the land it sits on. A simple open plan and a large home with several baths and a custom kitchen are very different jobs, and rural sites can add a well, septic, a long driveway and soil work. The snow load at your elevation shapes the building too. We visit the land, go through your plans and give you a free quote.
How do you build a barndominium for Colorado snow, wind and soil?
We engineer each building for the ground snow load and wind at its site, which the county sets and which rises fast with elevation. On expansive clay or bentonite we over-excavate where needed, build on a compacted base and design the slab to handle movement, with drainage carried away from the house. Under the steel roof, insulation and vapor control keep condensation from forming on cold nights.
Does a barndominium need a building permit in Colorado?
Yes. A barndominium is a house, so it needs a residential permit from the county on unincorporated land or the city inside town limits, plus well and septic approvals on rural property. Many acreage subdivisions also have HOA or covenant rules on metal siding, size and color. We check your parcel early, design to those rules and handle the permit with the building department.
Should my barndominium be a steel building or post frame?
Either works, and the floor plan usually decides. A steel-framed barndominium uses red iron or light-gauge steel and gives you wide open rooms with few posts. A post-frame barndominium uses engineered wood posts and trusses, which are simple to frame against and insulate. We help you choose based on the layout, the look you want and your site.
